a mini style icon

kingston rossdale

i have and always will be a huge gwen stefani fan. i think she has an incredible since of style, a little eccentric, but she rocks it. and she has the most adorable family, ever. her husband is not only sexy as hell but also one of the reasons that we (dan and i) have a gavin of our own. i've been in love with the name gavin since i have known who gavin rossdale is. his name just rolls off of your tongue so easily. then gavin and gwen got married and created, this beautiful little boy, KINGSTON. i love kingston rossdale. he is the cutest little boy ever... ever. (he just might even top gavin schroeder).. i even love his name and if i didn't know that kingston was a town near litchfield i would be tempted to name a son kingston. kingston has the most unique and adorable since of style (or maybe it's because his parents are ah-maze and dress him so cute) and i'm going to try to make (my) gavin a mini kingston. since gavin was born i've dreamed of cutting a sweet mohawk into is hair.. and since gavin was born with little to no hair i've been patiently waiting. his hair just might be long enough to make into a gnarly mohawk this summer! i would even consider bleaching it to match kingstons if that would be something he would want down the road. ;) but for now, a mohawk will be our newest style in the summer. also, i love how kingston wears whatever.. sometimes it matches, sometimes it's a costume or sometimes it's just a random assortment of mismatched items.
if you see (my) gavin dressed in mismatched items, you'll know where i got the
ideas from :) and i'm DYING to find a pair of boots like kingstons!

bless this house..

we're updating.... finally. remember my blog post a month or so ago? it was about all the "home improvements" we need to do... well, folks we've started. the bathroom is all tiled (floor and walls) with beautiful ceramic and glass tiles. i'm so in love with it, and dan did such a wonderful job. now we just need to grout (sp) it and move some things back in. our vanity/sink is on back order for the time being and we can't decide on what to do for our toilet paper and towel holder... decisions decisions. we have just decided on the paint for the bathroom, i love it. so one day it will eventually be put all back together and when that time comes i will post a new and improved picture of our newly updated bathroom. dan thought it would be a good idea to tear up our maroon carpet that was in our living room (THANK YOU!!!!!!!!) on saturday night and we discovered beautiful old hardwood floors. they need a little TLC and refinishing, but it will save us a lot of $$$ instead of laying new flooring. i am so proud of dan, he's such a hard worker. our house will be looking "newer" in no time flat! let's just hope i can keep this fire under his ass, and hope we can keep some funds in our account as well. i can't get over how expensive it is to remodel. and how fast that money can go. thankfully, under all the pink carpet in our bedroom is beautiful flooring as well... so that's next to go :) ...and that is all we did this weekend. and it was fabulous. this upcoming weekend is BUSY BUSY BUSY. and that goes along with our summer. already we have six weddings... but the highlight of the busy wedding season is that with dan and celeste's wedding up at vermilion we're having an extended weekend get-a-way, just dan and i. can't wait.

two really good reads..

march madness: the snow

there is a couple good things that come out of A LOT of snow- and no it's not the fact that the snow banks are up to my head on the end of our lawn. the phone call at 6 am saying school was closed is the best, by far!

1. a stay at home, with out your child but with your husband, kind of day. i'm honestly watching twilight as we speak because i'm lame like that... and i haven't watched a movie that wasn't rated G without a little munchkin running around in A LONG time.
2. dan's getting to go snowmobiling all day long. which this year hasn't happened all that much, even though we've been so blessed with quite a bit of snow this year.
3. gavin's at daycare. enough said.
4. a yummy roast, potatoes, carrots and celery are in the slow cooker as we speak. it's going to be delicious!!! cannot wait!
5. i get to finish my book that i forgot to send with danielle on her trip (sorry).
6. only TWO days until spring break- tomorrow will be spent without kids and just in the office and friday will fly by like it usually does.
7. i get to play with my new camera that i got from my hunny for my birthday... i haven't had a small digital camera since septemeber, two years ago, so i'm so excited to try out it's features.. it's a canon SD1400 IS and my last camera was a 630 or something so this is like NEW NEW NEW to me.. and i might take a picture or two of this snow- it is pretty, you have to admit that.
8. breakfast with dan this morning too. sipping coffee and taking our dear sweet time eating was so fabulous!
9. all the cleaning is done in my house, so there's no need for that. just some dishes and a small load of laundry is on my "to do" list.
10. a day at home. with nothing much to do... it is just so peaceful!

i hope you are enjoying a day off of work/school as well. but if you don't please be careful if you're traveling... AND i hope you have 4 wheel drive. some of the roads are nasty!

a recap:

the end of february and middle of march.
i feel like march is flying by! this month usually seems to drag on and on, but not this year.
i think it's been seeming to fly by because i've been sick for the majority of march. with a cold, then bronchitis and an early stage of pneumonia and then getting pink eye- my days were spent sleeping on the couch and watching movies. also, i just started my job, and missed four days already because of this sickness that has been spreading around in my house. but now that i am back to my normal health the week seems to go by slow for me. today i thought it was thursday, and yesterday i thought it was tuesday. i'm all goofed up. but work is going well. i'm finally getting settled in and enjoying my duties. i get along with my co-workers and BA.
gavin is doing good as well. he got a really bad cold with high temps two weeks ago and missed quite a bit of daycare. but now that i's over daycare is going extremely well for gavin. he loves all his new friends and plays so hard that he is actually ready for bed at 8pm. he's been such a sweetie lately, i've been loving it so much. i am truly blessed to have such a great family!
what else is new? well we've been laying low on the weekends it seems. every night i go to bed around 9, and the weekends don't bring much change to that schedule. so that's nothing great to report on. it's a busy week this week! st patty's day on thursday- i think we're either going over to mikes house for a little party he and sarah are having or just head to the bar and have a green beer or two. i feel like i'm so antisocial lately because of my sickness. gavin and i are making sugar cookie shamrocks and i have to make cupcakes for work because friday is my birthday. who says that you have to bring in treats on YOUR birthday? well HLWW says so! that's fine- i was planning on making a cake anyways... i usually do for my birthday. dan's not much of a "planner" or a birthday celebrator so it's okay. my mom always makes me cheesecake, every year. it's delicious. then saturday we're either going to the cities or to cloud to eat and see a movie and satruday night- i'm really excited. dan and i haven't had a "date night" in MONTHS!
so that's the update for now... hope our little life continues to be healthy and happy.

LET'S PLAY HOCKEY!!

so it's been a VERY busy weekend.... spent in the cities, or st paul and minnetonka for that matter.
saturday on the way home from the shopping dan got a call. it was julian. "hey, hey, yea, what are you doing tonight?.... um, yea, let me talk to sam"
i thought, hmm okay? i told him last weekend after our all day/half night icescapade that i was NOT doing anything this weekend (drinking wise/going out).
dan said that julian got some tickets and wanted to take dan and i to a wild game for all the work dan's done on julians house. ummm OKAY!!!!! :)
we had the prevliege to go with andy and emily to a game in january and had a blast!
we rolled out of town around 9, too early for me on a weekend, and ventured to the cities---- PRE snow!
arrived at the excel center.
walked right in the perfect door to get straight to our section. i looked at the ticket--- it said, row 6, seat 17. now i didn't really understand that section 103, row six was...
right. off. center. ice......
REALLY????????????????????????????????????
OMG (and this is NO zoom on my camera phone).

we almost made it on to the big screen after the row in front of us won free pizzas. super cool.
so after 3 amazing and intense filled periods we were tied with detroit, 1-1.... the avid red wing fan siting next to me practically screamed in my ears after detroits goal. i'm sure i did the same as the wild got their only goal after a breakaway. it. was. aahhhhmazing.
sudden death over time. well, that took all of the 5 minutes. now onto the shoot out. the red wings scored their first goal (below).. and with two misses from the wild, detroit was up for the third and final shoot. they scored. boooo!
over all.... ahhhmazing! seriously, i am going to invest in many tickets next year. i miss hockey so much and i will DEFINITELY pay LOTS of money for those tickets. up close and personal is the way to go!
and I NEED a jersey... i've got four on my mind:
the common: clutterbuck
the hottie: backstrom
the for the last name: stoner or cullen ;)
the ride home was not so fabulous. with a whiteout, lots of snow and wind and probably five or so cars in the ditch we were happy to see darwin knowing we were very close to home.
THANK YOU JULIAN and TIF! we had a bbbbbbbbbbbbblast!

good reads

just finished the best book:
The Shack- by William P. Young
it's honestly SO good. it's a great book with such a fabulous meaning. although it was hard to read at some points, the pages flew by.
i HIGHLY suggest reading it.

another good, super quick read is:
Oogy- by Larry Levin
i am bound and determined to work/volunteer in the veterinary/shelter world.
AND to find a dogo!

any good book you've just read? i need to find a new one, asap. i feel naked without one near me at all times :)
