no microwave?

so about a month and a half ago our microwave broke..

honestly, i had a slight panic attack because we tend to use it quite frequently, especially having a 2 year old who sometimes needs to eat on demand. i always buy frozen veggies that can be steamed in the microwave in three-four minutes, and heating up leftovers seems to be a must for a microwave.

....and then the thought occurred. i don't need a microwave, i just like the simplicity of using it.

when i worked for juut we didn't have a microwave in our break area. almost everyone hated it, including myself. when you have a 30-45 minute break and 15-30 other people on break at the same time (sometimes)... you want your food done quickly. david wagner (our head boss and founder of juut), was dead against using microwaves because of the radiation it causes. he is a "health freak" and lives an extremely healthy lifestyle not only in his salons but also in his homes.

i did a little research on microwaves and the effects that microwaves have, and wow, i was astonished. i'm not here to tell you not to use a microwave, i'm sure eventually we'll get another one, but for now i'm going to keep on my "no microwave" plan. and try a little bit harder to keep a little bit of radiation away.. it's really not that hard, just takes a little bit more time. :)

even dan has said "it can't be good for you if it cooks something in three minutes instead of in the stove/oven for 20-30 minutes"....... well said dan!

at the farm

we NEVER want to leave... can you blame us?

the beginning of july.

it's "spicer is nicer" days this weekend. and since dan has been working on penk's monstrous deck for the last two weeks+, and finally finishing it today, my mom and i ventured to spicer early saturday morning... even though i was feeling quite "under the weather" and for that matter, still am. but i made the best of it and sucked it up and put on a somewhat happy face. we did lots of playing in the lake.. got a little, a lot wet. this sweet child of mine could easily spend every single day at the lake.. talking about the "wa wa" and the rocks. he REALLY likes the sand and lays in it, every.. single... time.
gavin really enjoyed the "lillys" and i thought he'd be eager to jump right on one since he's okay with our own Lilly, but nope. he liked petting and looking at them rather than saying giddy up.
and now dan and a couple of his guy friends are out a melvins having a grand ol time... i was not interested in hanging out with 6-7 drunk boys/men-- sometimes i'm not too sure what to call them :)

just with in the first two days we've had some beautiful, and crrrazy weather.

the storm that came through on july 1st made our first "home damage"....

but not too much, thank goodness.

our neighbors tree fell on the fence and onto our cement slab... THANKFULLY dan's work car was not sitting right there were it usually is :)

the damage was gavin's new, brand new, as in i just bought it that day, pool. our roof is okay and so is the fence... which is totally surprising. we got lucky, gavin... not so much! on a good note, the pool was $25 and can easily be replaced.

for the rest of the weekend we have a few bbq's and of course some fourth of july fireworks to watch! we are EXCITED!

a little bit of hard work

goes a long way.

just a small amount of flowers, actually $24 to be exact can make such a difference.

last year we put in the bushes and moved around the hostas to make a boarder, we like it.

i bought a small chili plant and put it in a planter outside.

it's defiantly a "conversation" starter.

and the chili's are really good! win win!

i wrote a previous blog about how much i love my moms "shabby"

outside decor and finally created a masterpiece of my own.

i found all these flowers outside of target in hutch and only paid $12 for the flowers,

and i got the old wash bucket for free from my mom.

another project that is now complete is our bathroom.

or well near complete.

we still need to get a new shower cutain and some shelves/decor,

but as of now we love it!

totally worth waiting for forever for our sink.

the color is a little off in this picture because of the flash.

and the basket on top of the toilet needs to go, once we get shelves.

where is the sun?

seriously, it's been a depressing week. i'm in some desperate need of sunshine. there's a slight overcast today, but it's so chilly! gavins wearing his long sleeved favorite tractor shirt and jeans- and it's JUNE!!! i'm hoping that it will be simply beautiful by 6 when gavin, sarah and i venture to central park for pie in the park and a little marching band entertainment. if not beautiful, at least a little warmer. it's like 55 degrees right now and i really want to put gavin in his winter coat (if it still fits) and plop him into his bike trailer so we (i mean me), can get some exercise. because being indoors all week, okay maybe not all week, but for the last two days is creating a restless, hyper, almost two year old.

tomorrow morning gavin goes to daycare, i go to breakfast with erin, and then my mom and i have a busy afternoon in hutch getting some last minute things for gavin's birthday party on saturday and doing a little antique and flower shopping.

let's pray for some beautiful weather for the weekend. we have an incredibly busy and fun weekend planned with three parties on saturday and a whole boatload of fun on the water on sunday.

summer delight.

doesn't my title for this blog sound like an amazing drink? a summer salad? or something else delicious?

my first two weeks of summer vacay have been so great... and if this is any indication of what's to come for the remainder of these three months, i'm going to have so much fun.

gavin is home with me now, and goes to daycare only on fridays, so we get plenty of mommy and "little man" bonding time. we already have such a routine down- walking in the morning and listening/watching the marching band practice, playing outside for an hour or so, coming in and watching a movie, preparing and eating lunch, nap time, playing outside, going for a bike ride... ahh, the time together is so great.

of course dan and i have so much going on with weddings, showers, birthdays, ect. ect. that i'm taking in every single ounce of gavin time that i can. and with that we need to start planning zoo trips and other things to do with my sweet love. by the way.. can you believe he's going to be two in just over a week? i can't! we're still on that daunting task of getting him potty trained... eh! i'm hoping now that i'm home every day we can get into a schedule and try harder than in the past.

we have three very exciting new news for our family. dan just got another raise to become a fourth year apprentice, which also means that he only has one more year left of school- woo hoo! i'm so so proud of dan!

the other two will have to wait until we're 100% sure about them. i don't want to "count my eggs before they hatch"--- which is SO cheesy but is one of dan's favorite new sayings. both would be great news! i'm crossing my fingers! :)
